Remote and in-person energy healing sessions to support you through transition and beyond.

Usui Reiki is a healing system developed by Dr. Mikao Usui and refined by Dr. Chujiro Hayashi and Mrs. Hawayo Takata. Reiki means “spiritual energy” in Japanese, and reiki practitioners act as channels for universal-spiritual energies that assist in healing.

Many cultures, including my own (Black American), employ the laying on of hands as a powerful method of healing. I find reiki to be in this lineage, and I do use touch in my practice. But reiki can also be performed without touching the client at all, which makes it ideal for sexual assault survivors and others who might be uncomfortable with touch.

Reiki energy is not bound by the limits of spacetime, so it can be sent remotely or in-person, to ancestors or ancestral selves, from any time to any place. It’s the perfect healing modality for this COVID world.

Questions and Answers

Is reiki fake?

I’m kind of a skeptic, despite also being a “woo-woo bitch,” as it were, so I understand this question because I’ve asked it myself.

The thing with reiki is the same as the thing with acupuncture, and prayer, and a bunch of other stuff that has some science backing up its efficacy while puzzling (and sneering) at its supposed mechanism of action. It works for a lot of people and we don’t know why it works. Is it a placebo effect? The effect of having a caring professional listening to you and attending to your needs? Some vasovagal response?

What isn’t up for debate is that I see it working every day, on myself and my clients. And I know that my lineages contain healers who used the laying on of hands to help others heal themselves effectively.

After years spent mulling this over, my answer today is: no. Hell no! Reiki is not fake.

What is a reiki session like?

Whether remote or in-person, a new client session typically begins with an intake interview so I can get to know you, your boundaries, your concerns, and your desired outcomes for our work together. The intake portion takes about 15 minutes, give or take.

Once we’ve gotten the formalities out of the way, I’ll have you get comfortable and then guide you into a state of relaxation. While you’re in a relaxed state, I will scan your body energetically, searching for knots, coldness, warmth, buzzing, or other shifts in sensation that point to areas where reiki energy needs to flow. I will also take into account your concerns, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, and direct energy according to those needs.

The active healing portion of the session lasts about 20-25 minutes. You may feel a range of sensations and emotions during active healing. You may also feel fatigued, hungry, or thirsty afterwards. Take it easy! Your vessel has just been filled with powerful universal-spiritual healing. It’s also normal not to feel much of anything at all. You might find things bubbling up in the days and weeks after our session.

After active healing, we take about 10-15 minutes to process what came through for me during the session. I also invite you to process your experience and ask any questions you might have.

Will reiki interact with my medication (or other conventional treatments) at all?

Reiki is a complementary therapy that can be used in conjunction with any and all conventional treatments, including medication, surgery, and physical therapy.

It is safe for all— reiki can be performed on children, elders, and even pets.

What is your lineage as a practitioner?

I began learning Usui Reiki in 2020, and I became a practitioner in 2021.

I studied level 1 under Reiki Master Tanai Holder of SoulWERK Academy. My level 2 reiki training was completed under Reiki Master Jamie Wozny of DEN LA.

My certificates of completion for Level 1 and Level 2 can be found here & here.
